Redwings Blank Ironpigs in Fourth Straight Win 3-0

By Christopher Drummond

The Rochester Red Wings are starting to look like a team nobody wants to face right now.

Behind dominant pitching, airtight defense, and another standout performance from Yohandy Morales, Rochester opened its six-game homestand Tuesday night with a commanding 3-0 shutout victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Innovative Field. The win marked the Red Wings’ fourth straight and pushed the club to 21-19 on the season — their first time sitting two games above .500 in weeks.

Rochester’s pitching staff was the story from the opening pitch.

Starter Luis Parales delivered five hitless innings, navigating early trouble before completely settling into rhythm. The right-hander walked three batters in a shaky first inning but regrouped quickly, allowing just one more free pass the rest of the way while keeping Lehigh Valley off balance throughout his outing.

By the time Parales exited, the IronPigs still had not recorded a hit.

The bullpen picked up where he left off, combining to allow just four hits over the final four innings to complete Rochester’s shutout effort. The defining moment came late when reliever Eddy Yean entered with the bases loaded and one out protecting a three-run lead. Instead of allowing momentum to swing, Yean induced a sharp inning-ending double play off the bat of Brian De La Cruz, preserving the shutout and sending the home crowd into a roar.

While the pitching dominated, Morales once again provided the offensive spark.

The red-hot infielder finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, continuing what has become one of the most consistent starts on the roster. Morales now leads the team with 23 RBIs while batting above .330, cementing himself as the centerpiece of Rochester’s lineup.

The Red Wings managed just six hits on the night, but they made them count.

Robert Hassell Jr. added a sacrifice bunt that plated Dylan Crews — who scored twice in the game — helping Rochester manufacture offense even without a power-heavy attack.

After the game, manager Matthew LeCroy praised the complete team effort and pointed to the club’s recent chemistry as a driving force behind the winning streak.

> “We’re coming together as a group, and our offense is starting to do some things,” LeCroy said. “Defense has been a staple for us all year, and our pitching has been really good as of late. They’re just working hard and fighting every day. Things are starting to go our way, and it’s fun to see.”

LeCroy also had high praise for Morales, whose steady production has become impossible to ignore.

“He’s been Mr. Steady for us all year long,” LeCroy said. “He’s having a tremendous start to the season. I love to watch him play and compete. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, he’ll give himself a chance to go up to the next level.”

Morales credited preparation and routine for his breakout performances, emphasizing the work happening behind the scenes.

“Everything is working right now; everything is dropping,” Morales said. “What’s been helping me a lot is my routines in the cages, off the tee, seeing live at-bats to project what pitches are coming. I just want to keep doing that and keep things going.”

With momentum building and confidence growing, the Red Wings will look to keep the streak alive Wednesday night in game two of the six-game series against Lehigh Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Innovative Field.
