Taylor Beth Davis Goes Inside the Mind Of Stein

Will Stein continues to lay the groundwork for his first season as Kentucky's new head football coach. Among the many additional responsibilities is more media. Thursday, he hopped on the Bleav Network to talk with Taylor Beth Davis on the SEC State of Mind podcast.

The two spoke about how things have come full circle for him, and you can really see the gratitude he has to be the head coach of Kentucky. He's bled blue since he was a child, it's definitely obvious that he's the son of two UK alums. Stein also referenced the coaches that he's been around and learned from and the role that has played in him being where he is today.

Connection is also a big priority in the way Stein is building his program. I recently spoke with Ty Bryant and Willie Rodriguez, two returning starters and leaders on their respective sides of the ball. They both spoke to the effectiveness and the benefits of the weekly "Get Real" sessions. Having that kind of buy in from vets will go a long way. Stein is also focused on having a solid connection among his coaching staff. Something as normal as going out to "have a beer with one of his assistants" should be just that, normal.

The O-line being a strength of the team is something that BBN should also be excited to hear about and watch materialize. Given Stein's background and track record of developing quarterbacks, that will undoubtedly be a huge focus for all onlookers as well. I personally like his unbothered, uncluttered, but detailed approach that he has in that regard. He wants to provide adequate information and have them prepared while also getting out of the way and just letting them play.

But yeah, I mean it's just, it's surreal when I when I put these colors on, when I get to wear Kentucky across my chest, it really is surreal and thankful for this opportunity, but we're just getting started, you know, and the nostalgia is one thing, but I didn't take this job just because I love Kentucky. I took it cuz it's an opportunity to win and to win at the highest level.
